While abroad, students weigh in on election

This story was assigned to me as part of the DN’s election ’08 coverage. I asked around and found a student studying abroad in Greece who was a gracious and wonderful person to interview. I also found an international student from Saudi Arabia, which is a monarchy and is very different from our democracy. The story is built around their quotes and their perspectives.

I recieved an e-mail from one of my editors that said he was disappointed in my story. He felt like I had found bad or incomplete sources and should’ve looked harder for sources from certain counteries or for different quotes. I don’t think I completely agree with that because in practice, I would ignore people who have equally valid viewpoints that just don’t coincide with the angle I want the story to go for people who do have viewpoints that coincide with my direction. But I can definitely and honestly say this wasn’t my best story ever.
